Khama Rhino Sanctuary, Botswana
The Khama Rhino Sanctuary, located just outside of Serowe, Botswana, was the location of our first night on the trek through Botswana. After a very long day driving up from Johannesburg, we set up our tents, and then went on a game drive in search of the elusive rhinos. The Sanctuary, established in 1992, is home to both black and white rhinos, as well as giraffe, zebra, leopard, ostrich, and a vast array of antelope. Well, we didn’t see a leopard, but in the warm glow of the setting sun, we saw the rhinos!
The sunset was magical … the sands of the Kalahari billowing into the air as ostrich took a sand bath and rhinos walked to the watering hole…
